Our U12s and U13 hockey teams both travelled to Markethill HS this afternoon for their first league matches of the season. The Year 9s were unlucky losing 1-0 after some superb saves by Kerry McNabb and defence work from Maisie Sinton. Katie Toal made some great runs forward with Julie-Ann Meredith assisting the defence with some powerful clearances. The Year 8 girls embarked on their first match in TJHS colours with the game finishing 3-0 to MHS. Every one of these girls gave 100% today and we were extremely proud of them. We would like to take the opportunity to thank the many local businesses, schools, groups and individuals who, yet again stepped up to the mark to enable us to even start to cope with the overwhelming requests for assistance we received this year at Christmas 2024. We could not have even attempted this without the massive and ever present support we receive from our local community - thank you from those who cannot thank you themselves.
We are fortunate to have overwhelming support in our community, from both business and public. To name a few: thank you to Craigavon Area Food Bank for continued support and assistance, given not just at Christmas but throughout the year. Moy Park Chicken for delicious chickens and ongoing financial assistance. Irwin's Bakery for cakes, buns, pancakes, muffins and of course loaves! Gilford Van Hire Ltd for their generosity in providing vehicles and their financial generosity. Cash for Kids NI for their unwavering support every year in providing brand new toys, without their continued support we simply could not have provided the level of assistance we are fortunate enough to have given. Shelbourne Motors for continued support, Tayto for their famous crisps, Tandragee Junior High School for donations of food and toys, St Oliver Plunketts-Ballyhegan for donations of both toys and food for our hampers. Portadown Integrated Nursery and Primary School for their ongoing generosity. Simplyfruit (Ire) Ltd. The Progressive Building Society thank you. Zio Portadown for the provision of delicious cooked Christmas dinners that we distributed to 68 individuals and families on Christmas Eve, thank you for taking the time when you were at your most busiest to think of others in our community that may not have had a Christmas dinner to enjoy. This was organised and co-ordinated through Eddie Drury who, arrived daily, sometimes twice daily with donations of food, money and toys ... a true friend of Portadown Cares and we hear he's a fairly good singer too!! The Hygiene Bank Moira for ongoing assistance not only at Christmas but throughout the year. Thank you to our High Street Mall neighbours Peacocks Portadown for clothing vouchers that were used to purchase wooly socks, cosy dressing gowns and snuggly jammies for our senior citizens who were extremely grateful. A special thank you to Dennis Davison Christmas Trees who donated the most perfect Christmas tree we've ever seen, he brought it right to the door and had the craic with us. We used the tree in our free Santa's Grotto and then passed it on to the Simon Community in Armagh. So Dennis your tree was put to good use and many got enjoyment from it, thank you for the tree and for the laughs! Thank you to the Acute Care at Home Team in the Southern Trust for their generosity, Craigavon Plastics for their generosity. Iceland Foods for their mince pies. To Peter Pans Neverland for their kind gesture of vouchers. To Kingspan Water and Energy for their generosity. Thank you to the "old school friends" they wish to remain anonymous, but you know who you are! and thank you yet again. Thank you to the many who popped into our shop with cash donations, cheques and vouchers, these were all put to good use and the recipients were very grateful. As ever The Agent NI we can not thank Owen and Dawn enough, they are always there for Portadown Cares and their generosity really knows no bounds. Thank you to everyone to took a star from our tree and purchased a gift for the child named, thank you to all who purchased gifts for the individuals we hi-lighted on our social media pages. The Forde Family for their annual hamper packing, all those who gave up their evenings and helped with toy packing and toy and hamper deliveries. None of this would be remotely possible without our priceless volunteers, we could not function without you . . .you are indeed priceless and irreplaceable. Thank you to the staff and management of High Street Mall, Portadown without the security guys a certain van would still be at the bottom of the ramp ... if you know, you know! Thanks guys, we really appreciate you! To our Committee, long hours, no pay, but unlimited weak coffee and lots n lots of craic. Thanks guys!!
What a list and what a long post, if you've gotten to here, thanks for reading!! If we have forgotten anyone, we apologise wholeheartedly as it was unintentional. As you can see this post is going on forever, but I promise we are nearly finished, well done for getting this far!
